Reiki is an integral part of the work I do with clients and it is something I practice every day in both my personal and professional life .
As a Holistic Life Coach, many in my private practice receive Reiki as part of their session. Sessions begin with counseling or coaching which leads to an insight or point of clarity. We then move to the Reiki table to support the integration of that shift in awareness.
Clients regularly report how powerful the shift is for them and how important it is to “be still in the Reiki” to allow their busy mind the space and time it needs for integration.
Clients report that relaxing with Reiki at the end of a session helps them integrate the insights gained from the work. In my observation, they are typically able to move through life’s challenges with much greater ease and less time than with traditional talk-therapy approaches.
Many ultimately choose to become Reiki attuned by taking a workshop. One client, a young adult struggling with direction in life, reported how Reiki helped him accept who he is as a person, supporting him in gaining a clear understanding of what he would pursue in college. He continued practicing daily Reiki self-treatment supporting his follow-through in school.
As a NY Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I find Reiki most helpful for low-grade diagnoses. For example, I have witnessed highly beneficial results for anxiety and depressive mood disorders.
I am a strong proponent of offering Reiki for any type of anxiety-related issue since it initiates a relaxation response. This offers nearly immediate feedback for those feeling anxious, supporting the client in feeling like it helped which typically increases their willingness to receive more Reiki at future appointments.
One of my clients who received regular Reiki sessions moved from debilitating work anxiety to increased confidence which resulted in a promotion.
Another client, a parent of a special needs child, received several Reiki sessions then attended a Reiki I class. She practiced daily self-Reiki for several months. When she returned for a private session she reported a dramatic increase in her level of patience with her child.
On the physical level, Reiki is a great support for wellness. Does that mean we will never get ill? Of course not. We are human! But it does offer a great tool for us to access and use more frequently when illness does occur.
A young client of mine was diagnosed with a painful uterine fibroid larger than a grapefruit. Surgery was recommended but she decided to try Reiki first. After six Reiki sessions, an ultrasound showed no sign of the fibroid.
I have worked with many cancer patients in my practice. Many had reduced side effects from treatment. I have witnessed clients living many years beyond their prognosis. Others experienced the benefits of greater quality of life while being treated for the illness.
Some, who ultimately died from the diagnosis, were able to walk through the process with more ease. It increased their acceptance of what was occurring and in many cases, decreased their fear of approaching death.
On multiple occasions, I have had the honor of supporting women in labor and delivery. Some stated a reduction in pain compared to previous births while others described a sense of support they had never experienced before.
I believe Reiki is useful in most any situations. The more frequent the better. Daily practice will provide significantly better results than a 20-minute session once a week.
My practice has been to offer Reiki to clients and as they respond, encourage them to take a Reiki I class so they can do daily self-treatment. I also recommend they continue the work with me since receiving from others is a wonderful adjunct to self-treatment. Once their symptoms have stabilized, self-treatment may be enough to help them maintain their health, knowing they can return for support as needed.
I intentionally blend Reiki with my Holistic Life Coaching because the two combined can lead to transformative shifts in health, mood, self-awareness, self-love, and everyday life. Shifts can happen quickly, and they can be life-changing.
